Why oil keeps winning
- It's what the science used. The separation/car-travel trial, the Cornell pain trial, the six-month safety study — oil, every time.
- Precision. A marked dropper hits 23 mg exactly; chews round to the nearest 5.
- Cost. High-potency bottles run $0.03–0.09 per mg — a third of chew prices.
- Absorption. Given with a fatty meal, oil produces several-fold higher blood levels than fasted dosing.
Choosing bottle strength
Match the bottle to the dog: under ~20 lb, a 150–300 mg bottle keeps doses from being a single tiny drop; 20–50 lb dogs sit comfortably on 600 mg; big dogs on daily dosing belong on 1,200–3,000 mg bottles or the price-per-mg gets silly. The calculator shows mL and drops for any combination.
The routine that works
- Draw the dose while the food's down — dose the meal, not the mouth.
- Morning and evening for daily support; single 4 mg/kg dose two hours ahead for events.
- Mark the calendar and film behavior weekly — decide with evidence at week two, not vibes at day two.
